Deuxave Boston Restaurant and Bar

Last week I had the pleasure of meeting with Co-Owners Chef Chris Coombs and Brian Piccini at their recently opened restaurant, Deuxave Restaurant and Bar (pronounced doo-ave). Chris Coombs is a young up-and-coming chef who recently appeared on the Food Network’s show Chopped and Brian is Chris’ partner from their already successful venture, dbar. Their beautifully designed restaurant sits in an amazing section of Boston’s Back Bay at the corner of Commonwealth and Massachusetts avenues. Ahhh doo-aves! Get it? Two Aves.

Chef Coombs says his inspiration behind his ‘American Nouveau Cuisine’ is “Seasonality, with a focus on working with the finest farms and purveyors, sourcing out the freshest, local ingredients and amplifying their magnificence.” That is quiet a mouthful! The menu offers entrees that average around $26 and feature cuisine that is rooted in the nouvelle techniques of contemporary French cuisine, married with the splendor of American ingredients in a refined, but casual setting.

At the helm of Deuxave’s extensive wine program is General Manager/Sommelier Jason Irving. The wine list boasts about 250 bottles, including 20 wines available by the glass. Their wine choices are strongly routed in France, but also features wines from around the world. They hope to constantly expand their wine program and plan to build a 5000 bottle wine cellar.

Unfortunately, I was photographing Chris for Scene Magazine’s “Boston T.V. Chefs” article in our Fall Issue and did not get a chance to try any of the food. Hopefully in the future I will have a chance to check out the menu for myself.
